Perhaps I spoke too soon. I happened to be looking through photos I took years ago and saw this. What do you think?

I'm not sure if I'm completely in love with this shot but I love the idea of getting in something and going somewhere.

It’s more than simply having a hand in your’s. It’s the quiet knowing that come what may, that hand will never leave your’s. This is love.

Waiting on a Sunday Afternoon

18. Track, originally uploaded by rcslaughterphotography.

With the end of the year coming, I have been thinking about my goals for next year. One area I would love to improve is my portrait photography. If anyone happens to be in the Central Coast area and is interested, send me an e-mail! Over the next week or so, I will post some I've taken over the past year with the goal of improving on them for next year. As a side note, I will be entering this photo into a contest this week at Digital Photo Pro. Wish me luck!

Busy

Our culture is a busy one. We should take the time to stop every now and then.

Direction

"You can take the road that leads you to the stars, I can take the road that will see me through..."
I don't know why that song (Road by Nick Drake) has been stuck in my head. Anyways, I happened to see this as I was preparing to leave San Miguel. Why is it that when I go somewhere to photograph something, I like all the other photos better?

Another single post. The slideshow is on the way.

War Stories

More photos coming but here is one from last night. This ship is a Vessel Assist that I saw "parked" in Port San Luis. I can only imagine the sort of calls this ship went on. I'm sure if the hull could talk, it'd have a few stories to tell. What keeps coming to my mind is the thought that this ship's function was to assist vessels back to port. Now it sits, surrounded by caution tape, in need of repair.

COMPLETED! 26 Things Entry (Slideshow-click photo below)

rcslaughterphotography - View my '26 Things November 2010' set on Flickriver

More photos for 26 Things. Some new, some old. I don’t know why I like the photo above so much, but I do. The strobe wasn’t working on the camera, but all things considered, I think it came out pretty well. If you ever get the chance to learn how to scuba dive, I highly recommend it. Back! (Slideshow: 26 Things)

It’s been a good little while. School and work have been keeping me busy, but I’ve resolved to make more of an effort to keep shooting. I’ve also decided to participate in sh1ft’s newest contest… 26 Things. A photographic scavenger hunt, my goal is to take images from the Central Coast. Check back throughout the month for updates. Also, here are photos from GreekFest and an Evening in Greece which happened earlier this year.

Easter Favorites

These cousins loved to jump off those bricks! They were also so proud of their matching Easter dresses. With so much going on in life, its easy to be distracted. Sometimes we need reminding that its the little things that mean the most.

Greek Dancing at the Sculpterra Winery (Slideshow)

This past Saturday, the Sculpterra Winery hosted a Greek Festival. It included wine, traditional Greek food, and Greek Dancing! It turned out to be a perfect day and a perfect setting for it. If you haven’t been to Sculpterra, you should go! What sets it apart from other wineries in the area is the emphasis on art. There are several sculptures and paintings to look at while you taste their wine (you can see a few on their website). Good wine, good art. You can’t beat it. Hope to see you next time for Greek Dancing at Sculpterra! Until then, the Greek Orthodox Church will be hosting the third annual Greek Festival on June 5th-6th in Mission Plaza (San Luis Obispo)!

John and Candace (Slideshow-Click photo below)

rcslaughterphotography - View my 'John and Candace' set on Flickriver

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine asked if I could take pictures at his wedding. I was honored he thought of me but at the same time a little worried. No second chances. I recruited a fellow photographer to help and we set out to do our best. These are some of the photos I was able to take. I can’t wait to see the photos from my friend. He is a talented guy and I’m sure he captured a lot of good moments.

I think it’s a promising sign when you’re at a wedding and are surrounded by good people. I think it says a lot about the bride and groom when everyone is genuinely excited and happy for them. I felt honored to have been there to share the moment. Hopefully these photos help to do it justice. This is a work in progress, but here is to their first 50 years.

“Falls on you like heavy rain…” (Slideshow)

I have always loved music. Since I was a kid I’ve played one instrument or another, so when I heard that a friend of mine was performing with his band, I jumped on the chance to watch and take photos. The band is called Company Need. Their website describes them as being “un-plugged rock.” They sing songs about life, loss, hope and love. They play from the soul and it shows; True music in my book.

Finally! (Slideshow)

The weather finally broke this weekend and I was able to get out and about. A friend of mine found a February Competition called 26 Things and my goal was to take some shots for it. The first placed I headed was Montana De Oro and here are a few shots. Check back throughout the week as I'll add more as I get more time!

I Saw it Written and I Saw it Say...

I had planned to spend the day out and about early with camera in hand. Unfortunately mother nature had other plans. I considered "weatherproofing" my camera (aka... plastic bag with rubber band) and heading out despite the rain, but visions of what could go wrong gave me pause. In the end I spent the day listening to Nick Drake, looking at old photos, and cursing the sky. Semi productive at least? Right?

Jan 17th, 2010

Thanks to a generous gift for Christmas, I was able to upgrade from the original Canon Rebel to the Canon Rebel XSI! These photos are the result of my first official outing with it. It is a learning curve, but I think I am in love. Along the same lines, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a cousin's wedding. It was a great set up with good people. The perfect recipe for a memorable wedding.
